Genshin Impact Gacha Guide: Pity, 50/50 & Tips

Mastering Genshin Impact’s gacha system is the key to securing your favorite five-star characters without wasting hard-earned Primogems. Whether you are a new traveler or a seasoned veteran, understanding how pity, the 50/50, and Epitomized Path work will help you plan every pull with confidence.

      Pity Thresholds and the 50/50

Every limited character banner uses a hidden pity system. The base five-star rate is 0.6% per pull, but after pull 74—known as soft pity—your odds increase dramatically. Hard pity guarantees a five-star at pull 90. The same system applies to the Standard Banner (soft pity 75, hard pity 90). For weapon banners, soft pity starts around pull 65 and hard pity at 80. Pity carries over between same banner types (character to character, weapon to weapon, standard to standard), so you can stop and resume later without losing progress.

When you pull a five-star on a limited character banner, there is a 50% chance it is the featured character. If you lose that coin flip (getting a standard five-star instead), your next five-star on any limited character banner is guaranteed to be the featured one. This guarantee only resets when you finally pull the promoted character.

      Weapon Banner and Epitomized Path

Weapon banners operate differently. The Epitomized Path lets you select one of the two rate-up weapons. If you don’t get it, you earn Fate Points. After two losses (meaning your third five-star pity), your chosen weapon is guaranteed. However, Fate Points reset when the banner ends, so you must commit fully within one banner cycle to benefit from the guarantee.
