Elden Ring: Nightreign – Dark Souls Crossover Revealed

FromSoftware has never been shy about reusing ideas, but the reveal trailer for Elden Ring: Nightreign appears to go much further—actually importing characters and mechanics from Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro into the Lands Between. Within the first two minutes, sharp-eyed viewers spotted the unmistakable silhouette of Dark Souls 3‘s Nameless King soaring on his dragon mount, and rewinding reveals even more familiar nightmares: the multi-limbed Centipede Demon from Dark Souls 1 and the colossal spider Duke’s Dear Freja from Dark Souls 2 all make cameos. The official Dark Souls social channels cryptically confirmed the crossover, calling these foes “remnants of a fire that once burned bright.” Whether this signals a deliberate multiverse or just a playful mash-up, it has set the community ablaze with speculation.

Beyond the boss roster, gameplay elements from across FromSoftware’s catalog bleed into Nightreign. The character Duchess uses a quickstep dodge reminiscent of Bloodborne‘s signature maneuver, while Wylder wields a grappling hook straight out of Sekiro. Other mechanical nods include wall-clambering, a spectral bird ride echoing the Giant Crow in Dark Souls, and a weapon that looks like a medieval version of Bloodborne‘s Stake Driver. These echoes are as exciting as the familiar faces, since each game’s unique feel is being folded into this co-op roguelite.

Nightreign is not a direct sequel. Game director Junya Ishizaki confirmed it is a spin-off set in a parallel timeline after the Shattering, with its own story and antagonist—the Night Lord. That title immediately recalls the Nox, the underground civilization in Elden Ring
