Lysward – Survival Adventure Game Hits Steam Demo
Lysward is a single-player, first-person survival-adventure game heading to Steam, and while it has no official ties to the Dune franchise, its harsh desert world, resource-driven gameplay, and sun-powered magical resource will immediately evoke Arrakis for fans of Frank Herbert’s universe. Developed by Snowcastle Games, Lysward targets players who enjoy the survival systems of Dune: Awakening but prefer a solo, story-driven experience.
A Sun-Scorched Planet
The game takes place on Zenit, a planet where the sun never sets. Perpetual daytime makes heat, hunger, and thirst core survival threats. Players control Kiran, a fugitive experiment whose memory has been wiped clean. Unlike Dune: Awakening’s character creator, Lysward offers a fixed protagonist, placing greater emphasis on uncovering his mysterious past.
Amri: A Double-Edged Resource
Lysward’s analogue to Dune’s Spice is Amri, a magical substance derived from Zenit’s sunlight. Kiran can harness Amri to gain abilities that ease resource collection, but exposure to the sun is lethal. Players must balance spending time in the sun to gather Amri against the risk of overheating and death. This paradox drives the survival loop, forcing careful planning and risk assessment.
