Dune: Awakening Hotfix Expands Deep Desert PvE
Funcom has released a hotfix for Dune: Awakening that significantly expands the PvE area of the Deep Desert while rebalancing risk and reward between PvE and PvP zones. The change, which went live on June 26, extends the PvE region to cover the entire southern half of the Deep Desert map. Imperial Testing Stations, caves, and similar points of interest in that area are now PvE, allowing players uninterested in PvP to engage with endgame content without forced conflict. However, Control Points and Shipwrecks remain PvP across the entire map, creating localized pockets of PvP within the expanded PvE zone, similar to how Shipwrecks work in Hagga Basin.
Risk vs Reward and Resource Rebalancing
To preserve the intended risk-vs-reward dynamic, Funcom has concentrated higher resource density and the largest spice fields in the northern, PvP portion of the map. Plasteel plates are now exclusive to PvP zones. The number of active medium spice fields has been reduced from eight to five, while small spice fields have increased from 20 to 22. Titanium and Stravidium spawn rates are lower in PvE areas, and their node count in PvE resource hotspots has been reduced. Respawning time for these materials has increased from 30 to 45 minutes.
Loot distribution also differs between the two halves. In the southern PvE region, each player receives their own loot, typically one schematic per activity. In the northern PvP area, loot is first-come, first-served with higher quantities, including two to six rare schematics per encounter. Some Imperial Testing Stations remain in the PvP area, but the team noted that schematic loot rotates weekly, so PvE-focused players may obtain desired schematics in future weeks or via trading.
