Genshin Impact Pity Guide: 50/50 & Save
Genshin Impact’s banner system can seem complex, but understanding the core mechanics of pity, soft pity, and the 50/50 rule is essential for efficient pull planning. Whether saving for a specific five-star character or aiming for a desirable weapon, a clear strategy helps players avoid wasted Primogems and disappointment. These systems apply across all limited-event banners, and their rules carry over between patches of the same banner type.
Banner Mechanics
Each Character Event Wish banner runs for about three weeks, featuring one five-star and three four-star rate-up characters. The hard pity for a five-star on the character banner is 90 wishes, but the five-star drop rate increases significantly starting at wish 75 (soft pity). Most players receive their five-star between wishes 75 and 80. The weapon banner has a hard pity of 80 wishes, with soft pity beginning at wish 65. Pity counts carry over between banners of the same type, so progress accumulated on one patch’s character banner applies to the next.
The 50/50 and Guarantee
On the character banner, the first five-star obtained has a 50% chance to be the featured rate-up character. If the player receives a standard-banner five-star instead (such as Diluc, Jean, or Mona), the next five-star they obtain on any character banner is guaranteed to be the rate-up character. This guarantee never expires and carries over across banners, providing a reliable path to securing a desired character.
