Valorant Open Console Beta: Now on PS5 & Xbox
Riot Games has launched an open console beta for its tactical hero shooter Valorant, expanding the free-to-play title to PlayStation and Xbox after a PC-only release in 2020 and several weeks of closed console playtests. The beta is currently available in Brazil, Canada, Europe, Japan, and the United States. To promote the launch, Riot publicly encouraged players with the message “no more codes. download now.”
Crossplay and Progression
Console players can team up with others on either PlayStation or Xbox, but Riot has deliberately disabled crossplay between console and PC to preserve competitive integrity. “We believe strongly in competitive integrity, and this is the best way for us to keep the experience fair and consistent for players on both console and PC,” the developer stated. All progress earned during the beta—including battle pass tiers, unlocked agents, and cosmetic collections—will carry over to the full game and also remain accessible on PC accounts. No PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass subscription is required to participate.
Beta Duration and Access
There is no fixed end date for the open beta. Riot has said it will close the beta only “once [Riot] feels confident in where the game is at,” meaning the test period will continue until the console version meets the developer’s quality standards. This open phase follows the same region-limited rollout used during the earlier closed tests.
