Ready or Not Steam Reviews Tank After Censorship Edits

Ready or Not, the tactical SWAT simulator from VOID Interactive, saw its Steam rating drop to Mostly Negative after a wave of negative reviews condemned recent content changes as censorship. Fans reacted strongly to modifications that the studio later revealed totaled just six alterations to the PC version, all made to comply with platform standards, age rating boards, and local legal restrictions.

Among the six changes, three representative edits involved adding underwear to previously naked hostages and suspects, removing the ability to dismember enemies after death (though dismemberment during combat remains), and altering a child character from convulsing in bed to simply sleeping. The remaining three changes follow a similar pattern: a police informant hostage was given underwear despite visible torture marks, a ghillie-suited suspect was also clothed, and an evidence item originally labeled ‘prohibited images of minors’ was renamed to ‘photographic evidence’ and now contains no images of people. VOID emphasized that major missions such as Elephant, Neon Tomb, and Valley of the Dolls remain unchanged.

In a Steam post accompanied by before-and-after screenshots, VOID Interactive stated that the edits were made only where absolutely required, asserting that creative values remain intact despite the need to operate within a global ecosystem of regulations. The studio reiterated its belief in creative freedom but acknowledged the reality of publishing across multiple platforms and legal jurisdictions.
