Hotels that will not take foreign guests – how to avoid getting turned away
This is real and it catches people out. Not every hotel in China is licensed to register foreign guests, and booking platforms do not always filter for it. Getting turned away at 11pm is a bad way to start a trip.
How to protect yourself
- Book international chains or well-reviewed hostels
- Scan recent reviews for the words “foreign” or “passport”
- If in doubt, message the hotel before booking and ask directly
