Getting from the airport to the city – every option, compared
Taxi, DiDi, metro, airport express, hotel transfer. Each makes sense in a different situation.
My general rule:
- Land during the day, hotel near a metro stop, take the metro
- Land at 2am, book a hotel transfer
- Everything else, use DiDi — usually the best answer
One warning nobody gives you: at big airports the DiDi pickup point is often nowhere near the taxi rank. At Shanghai Pudong it is on a completely different level. Screenshot your driver’s plate number before you go looking.
