Travel insurance for China – is it actually worth it?
Most policies cover China fine. What actually matters is in the details:
- Medical evacuation — essential if you are going anywhere remote or high
- Altitude cover — if you are heading to Tibet or high Yunnan, check this specifically. Many standard policies exclude it.
- Direct hospital payment — otherwise you pay upfront and claim later, which is a much worse experience
Has anyone actually had to claim? That is the only review that counts. In my experience the paperwork is the hard part, not the coverage.
