Budget check: what did your China trip actually cost?
Not what the blogs say — what you actually spent. Total, number of days, and roughly where it went.
I will compile the answers into a real budget guide, because the existing ones are either wildly out of date or assume you are staying in five-star hotels.
For reference, a rough middle ground per person per day excluding international flights:
- Budget (hostels, street food, public transport): CNY 300 to 450
- Mid-range (3-star hotels, restaurants, some taxis): CNY 700 to 1,100
- Comfortable (4 to 5 star, first-class rail): CNY 1,500 and up
